Zimbabweans suffer from a chronic deficiency of political sense

The Motlanthe Commission's anniversary of shame - ISS Africa

Which is easier, to get justice for seven people or thirty thousand people both murdered by the partisan military, which is an extension of the arrogantly entittled and sadistic Zanu pf? Is there some kind of leverage offered by the perpetually and systematic devalued supreme law of the land? What should justice for the seven people, all of whom were killed by a modus operandi which borders on extra judicial reaction, be like? Can the compromised, dependent and corrupt judiciary be reasonably expected to deliver justice despite the fact that the constitution is a victim of Zanu pf and the state conflation, or that rule by law long displaced rule of law, and equality before the law?

It would be madness and insensitivity to demand justice for victims of Zanu pf selectively. It indicates that political common sense has took to its wings and vanished, especially among the democratic hopefuls. This diagnosis aboute the acute deficiency of political common sense is buttressed by the short memory of Zimbabweans, who in their grief have caused the shadow of their apparent lack of national healing and reconciliation to cast into the background all other victims of Zanu pf violence through raping, maiming and killing by means that are extra judicial.

Justice for Silvia Maphosa, Ishmael Kumire, Gavin Dean Charles, James Chikandira, Brian Zhuwao and Challenge Tauro aborted when Zanu pf was not accountable for Gukurahundi attrocities, the electoral violence particularly the notorious and heinous Operation Makavhoteripi, all of which compounded to produce the August 2018 violence. Demanding justice for these slain is a failure to appreciate reality. The reality prevailing on the ground is that the enviroment is hostile to justice. Zanu pf has seen to it that the police force which should be reformed into a police service is not only political but is incapacitated as well.

The decimated and battered supreme law of the land has been appreciated by Zanu pf through its promotion of rule by law, impunity and hostility towards both transparency and accountability. Without either rule of law, equality before the law, or transparency and accountability, Zanu pf has made it impossible to attain justice. Justice acquisition in itself for Zanu pf victims, eitheir the August 2018 or January 2019 is an existential threat to Zanu pf. This is because justice for Silvia Maphosa, Ishmael Kumire, Gavin Dean Charles, James Chikandira, Brian Zhuwao and Challenge Tauro is an exposure of Zanu pf, its sadism and evil.

As the suffering and miserable Zimbabweans expect justice for the slain seven, there is need to reflect on the violence, hostile attitudes and militancy reactions of Zanu pf towards any tranquil democratic intiatives and attempts to intiate peaceful democratic transitions from the Zanu pf preferred archaic and autocratic political system. An understanding and subsequent appreciation of Zanu pf modus operandi is important if justice is to be conceived.

Zanu pf greed, its insatiable appetite for looting and plundering is the reasons why Zanu pf has devalued the supreme law of the land, centralized power so that it can violate the fundamental constitutional liberties of the people, as a means to an end of securing power illegitimately. Zanu pf is aware that realization of justice for Silvia Maphosa, Ishmael Kumire, Gavin Dean Charles, James Chikandira, Brian Zhuwao and Challenge Tauro and the subsequent closure for their families will tear it from its corrupt foundation. It would require, the realization of justice that is, that Zanu pf reform the political system, pawing way for both tranquil transition of the opposition into power, and a transition of Zimbabwe into a democracy, where the vitality of the supreme law of the land would be restored.

The implications would be an independent judiciary, submissive only to the constitution, which would hold Zanu pf accountable for the loss of tbe lives of not only Silvia Maphosa, Ishmael Kumire, Gavin Dean Charles, James Chikandira, Brian Zhuwao and Challenge Tauro, but every other Zanu pf victim. Both the partisan military and the political police force would be reformed and retrained with heavy emphasis to stimulate their allergies to political interference and partisanship which has led to state and Zanu pf collusion, contributing to state paralysis, a perfect cover for Zanu pf to accelerate centralization of power, as aiding to evasion of accountability and transparency both of which are crucial for realization of justice for the slain and living victims of horrendous Zanu pf sadism.

The only chance for realization of justice for Silvia Maphosa, Ishmael Kumire, Gavin Dean Charles, James Chikandira, Brian Zhuwao and Challenge Tauro is consequent the tranquil transition of the only resolute, resilient opposition into power after the departure of Zanu pf. This is because among many reasons, the opposition would be sensitive to the need for closure, national healing and reconciliation. As such, the constitutional commission for national healing and reconciliation would be adequately capacitated, in addition to being subservient to the constitution and adherence to transparency, accountability, rule of law and equality before the law.
